Here are some pictures of the
completed HD project at WXSS.
Construction started in October of 2005 and wrapped up in January of
2006.
This is the view of the
transmitter suite from the doorway.
The ÒmainÓ analog transmitter is at the end, and the control/HD equipment is on the left. The workbench is on the right.
Here is a shot of the equipment
racks. On the left is our audio
processor, audio level meters and remote control. Normally there is another audio processor below the top one
as a backup, but itÕs currently out on loan. The center rack is all HD equipment, and at the end is the
HD transmitter.
HereÕs some more equipment. Starting from top left: Audio decoder (this is our backup
ÒmicrowaveÓ link from the studio).
Next is an antenna switch controller, which determines what transmitter
is connected to the antenna. Next
is an HD radio receiver, followed by out T1 link, which is the primary audio/data
link from the studio.
This screen is connected to the
transmitter room server. This is
the power monitor screen for the HD transmitter. We can also adjust the processing and control the transmitters
from this computer.
This is some of the HD equipment. The top is the power meter for the HD
transmitter. Second is the
analog+digital meter, which shows the power going to the main antenna. After that is the GPS receiver and
audio input for the HD transmitter, then a battery backup, power switch, audio
switcher (so if all the links fail, we can run iTunes from the server!),
server, and finally an ethernet switch.
This picture and the next show
the copper transmission line. The
line, switches, and supporting structure hang from beams in the ceiling.
